How I grew my career at Lemax: Igor Kranjčec

Lemax is a place where people come to make a difference and grow their careers. Here’s the story of Igor, our Head of Marketing.

1. Tell us a bit about your role.

I keep ownership for the entire marketing funnel focused on increasing the number of new sales opportunities by quality and quantity to reach defined revenue targets. I’m driving main product marketing initiatives, acting as a product evangelist, owning branding and messaging for the company and products.

2. What did you do before Lemax?

I’ve been in Lemax for a bit more than a year.

I’ve worked in A1 for almost seven years as a Customer Base Manager (among other roles), then moved to Infobip as a Product Marketing Manager. I was responsible for product marketing activities for their self-service and marketing automation/lifecycle campaigning products. So, when I got the call from Lemax to join them as a Product Marketing lead, I saw it as an excellent opportunity to apply all the learned skills and build product marketing in Lemax from scratch.

Was I afraid? I still am from time to time – and I think that’s normal – that means you care. Same with performers, they say if you’re not nervous before coming to the stage, it means you don’t care. And, I don’t want to have a job I don’t care for. That’s unacceptable.

3. How did your career growth at Lemax happen?

Throughout my career, I’ve always collaborated with marketing and worked on marketing activities. Since PMM is in its beginning in Croatia, I often did a lot of, to generalize, classical marketing work (although I don’t like the “my job – your job” split in general).

Since joining Lemax, I started slowly taking over Digital marketing, followed by lifecycle campaigning, branding activities, etc. Then, a few months ago, Mate and I talked about me taking things over officially – which I gladly accepted.

4. What do you love most about your job?

How not be a cliche when answering this question? I love the mix of building stuff and distributing them, the feeling you get when a customer gives the feedback on the content and collaterals you’ve developed, the feedback from colleagues on how something we did helped them close a deal. The mix of creativity and numbers (and I do love numbers). Ahh…

5. Where do you see you have grown the most as a professional and a person during your career in Lemax?

I’m mastering switching from tactical to strategical, sometimes several times a day. And I think that’s an outstanding skill to have – to see how things should be done and do them. I’ve learned a lot from my team members, and I still do. I love our plannings and retrospectives; they not only inspire me but also help me learn new things and show me how to apply them instantly. So talk to your team members and colleagues, share ideas whenever you can. Don’t be afraid to ask for feedback!

6. Who is your role model, and why?

Ok, I’m gonna sound like Miss Universe or Meryl Streep collecting her 78th Oscar – but my parents. To have 50% of their persistence and positivity in life would mean I’ve succeeded!

7. If you could travel back in time, where & when would you go? And what would you bring back as a souvenir?

I’d go to the ’20s and ’50s. My most favorite decades, ever. Fashion, music, architecture. I’d bring back autographed copies of I Love Lucy, signed by Lucille Ball.
